Victorian Silver Salt Spoon, Charles Boyton, 1869 Victorian 1860s Silver %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a good quality Victorian Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the classic Fiddle pattern. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The spoon was made in London by renowned silversmiths Charles Boyton & Son and dates to 1869. The firm was founded in London by Charles Boyton (I) in 1825, based at a number of locations before finally settling in Clerkenwell. They established a reputation for fine workmanship and design that was maintained across four generations of Charles Boytons until, along with many other firms, they hit economic difficulties in the early 1930s. In 1934 a new company was formed called Charles Boyton & Son Ltd that continued into the 1970s but no members of the Boyton family were involved in this.

Condition is good, with just one tiny ding in the bowl plus the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 155 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The salt spoon is 9.7cm / 3.8ins long and weighs in at 11.0g / 0.39oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter o for 1869, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the C B makers' mark for Charles Boyton & Son.
