Victorian Silver Serving Spoon-G'smiths & S'smiths

This is a beautifully decorated Victorian Sterling Silver Serving Spoon with a gilded bowl. The round bowl has chased vine leaf decoration as well as being gilded. The lower part of the stem is a barley twist and the upper part has more chased vine leaf decoration surrounding a blank cartouche.
This ezquisite spoon was made in London by the renowned Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company and dates to 1887. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with their Regent Street neighbours Garrard & Co.
Condition is extremely good. with no dings or dents, no loss to the gilding and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 135 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The serving spoon is 19.9cm / 7.8ins long and weighs in at a very respectable 46.5g / 1.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter M for 1887, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the W.G over J.L makers' mark for William Gibson and John Langman of The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company.
