Victorian Silver Topped Rouge Pot, Walker & Hall
This is a charming little late Victorian Slice Cut Glass Rouge Pot with a Sterling Silver lid. The glass is octagonal with a round rim and the lid is embossed with scrolls, flowers and foliage and gilded on the inside, always a sign of good quality.
The pot is made by world famous silversmiths Walker & Hall in Birmingham and dates to 1899. Although based in Sheffield, Walker & Hall also manufactured in both Birmingham and London on occasions.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents to the silver and no chips or cracks in the glass. It has clearly been well looked after for over 120 years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The rouge pot is 2.9cm / 1.1ins in diameter and stands 2.3cm / 0.9ins high. The silver lid weighs in at 2.6g / 0.09oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 15.8g / 0.56oz.
Although necessarily small, the hallmarks on the side of the lid are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter z for 1899 and the distinctive Wr & Hl in a pennant makers' mark for Walker & Hall.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
