Victorian Silver Trinket Dish, Birmingham, 1891
Here we have a charming and unusual late Victorian Sterling Silver Trinket Dish. The dish is of a naturalistic form with the pierced bowl standing on a broad low pedestal base, which is also pierced. The rim is decorated with scrolls and flowers and there are heart shaped panels on the sides of the bowl.
The trinket dish was made in Birmingham in 1891 but the makers' mark has been polished away by many years of cleaning so we are unable to give specific details of which silversmith it was made by.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the pierced work and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 130 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The trinket dish is 7.7cm / 3ins in diameter across the top rim and stands 2.8cm / 1.1ins high. It weighs in at a respectable 36.6g / 1.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are well struck and clear to read nwith the exception of the makers' mark of which the merest trace remains. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham and the date letter r for 1891.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
