William IV Silver Fruit Fork, Joseph Willmore 1836
This is a good quality William IV Sterling Silver Fruit Fork in the traditional Fiddle pattern. The fork has three tines and a long slender stem. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The fork was made in Birmingham by Joseph Willmore & Co and dates to 1836. Joseph Willmore was the grandson of Thomas Willmore, one of the original Birmingham silversmiths, and inherited his business in 1816. He is particularly well known for his very fine snuff boxes and vinaigrettes but also produced flatware from around 1830 onwards. He remained in business until his death in 1855.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 185 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The fruit fork is 14.4cm / 5.7ins long and weighs in at 12.8g / 0.45oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the Gothic date letter N for 1836, the William IV duty mark and the distinctive J W in a crimped oval makers' mark for Joseph Willmore & Co.

The fork was made in Birmingham by Joseph Willmore & Co and dates to 1836.
