William IV Silver Salt Spoon, Hayne & Cater, 1836

This is a smart William IV Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the traditional Fiddle pattern. There is an initial engraved at the top of the stem but it is somewhat rubbed and could be either S or J.
The salt spoon was made in London by Samuel Hayne and Dudley Cater and dates to 1836. The firm traced its origin back to a business started by Thomas Wallis in around 1758. His son, Thomas Jnr, formed a partnership with Jonathan Hayne in 1810 and Hayne eventually took sole control of the firm in 1821. He was succeeded by his son Samuel Hayne who took Dudley Cater as his partner in 1836. They finally ceased trading in 1865.
Condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial wear that you would anticipate after over 185 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salt spoon is 10.2cm / 4ins long and weighs in at 9.3g / 0.33oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are nice and clear to read with just a little rubbing to the makers' mark. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter A for 1836, the William IV duty mark and the script S H over D C makers' mark for Samuel Hayne and Dudley Cater.
