Hester Bateman
Hester Bateman was an English silversmith who successfully ran her family business for thirty years following the death of her husband. She took over the family business and registered her first sponsor's mark at the Goldsmith's Hall in 1761. Her early work seems to be producing work for other silversmiths and later, along with her sons, producing their own work in silver and silver plate.
They specialised in household silverware in a neo classical style also tea caddies, ink wells, trays, jugs and salvers. Their work is characterised by bright-cut engraving, beading around edges and piercing. Hester Bateman died in 1794 and was succeeded by her sons.
