2 x Victorian Silver Napkin Rings, Birmingham, 1892

This is an attractive Cased Pair of Victorian Sterling Silver Napkin Rings. The rings are circular with beaded rims and engraving on the bodies of flowers and foliage. Both the rings have blank cartouches. The domed box has a black leather covering and a rich blue satin lining.
The napkin rings were made in Birmingham by silversmiths Hilliard & Thomason and date to 1892. John Hilliard established his business in 1837 in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Around 1840 he was joined by John Thomason and the firm was renamed Hilliard & Thomason. They were very successful and established a reputation for fine quality small items for domestic, table and personal use. The firm remained in business up until around 1910.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 130 years of use. The box has some very slight scuffing on the outside but the inside is excellent and the clasp and hinges are in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each napkin ring is 4cm / 1.6ins in diameter and 2.2cm / 0.87ins deep. The pair together, unboxed, weigh in at a respectable 22.1g / 0.78oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the sides of the bodies, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter s for 1892 and the H & T makers' mark for Hilliard & Thomason.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
