This is a rare, fully hallmarked solid silver cigar / cheroot/ cigarette case with a wonderful Niello design showing galloping horses pulling a sleigh to the front, to the rear the Niello design surrounds a cartouch which has a scrolled monogram. In exceptional order, it is hallmarked for 1896 during the reign of Tsar Nicholas II, this is a fine piece of Russian master craftmanship in Solid Silver. It is marked with the maker's name Nikolai Pavlovich Pavlov and is in fine order. Oblong shaped with round corners, it is a substantial piece at c. 4.2/8" inch (11.1cm) x 2.5/8" inch (6.7cm). The hinges sit flush to the rear and the press opening catch is working perfectly - with retainers to the gilded inside, both top & bottom are clearly hallmarked.
