Art Nouveau Silver Teaspoons & Tongs - Mappin & Webb

Here we have a top quality cased set of six Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Teaspoons and matching Sugar Tongs from the early years of the 20th century. The spoons and tongs have a leaf and thread pattern and are double struck, ie the pattern is on both sides, which is always a sign of good quality flatware.
The teaspoons and sugar tongs are well made in a heavy gauge of silver by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb in Sheffield and date to 1912. They have no initials or personalisation of any kind making them ideal to move on to a new owner. The set is perfectly usable today or would make a good addition to any collection.
Condition of the teaspoons and tongs is very good with no dings, dents or damage and only the superficial surface wear that is to be expected after over 100 years of service. The box has suffered a bit, with some of the thin black leather missing around the sides of the box and a crack across the inner tray where the sugar tongs sit. However it has done its job well and the contents remain in fine condition. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoons are each 11.4cm / 4.5ins long, the tongs are 10.6cm / 4.2ins long and the full set (unboxed) weighs in at a very substantial 124.3g / 4.38oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the gothic date letter \"u\" for 1912 and the M & W makers\' mark for Mappin & webb. There is also a registered design number of 567025, which dates the Art Nouveau design to 1910/11.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
