Bronze Classical Maiden Figure Signed Cumberworth

This is a mid 19th century finely cast and beautifully patinated French bronze figure of a maiden after Charles Cumberworth. She is shown standing with loose drapery, the circular base inscribed C.Cumberworth.
Charles Cumberworth (1811-1852) enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1829 and exhibited at the Salon from 1833 until 1848. He mainly worked for the Susse Fres foundry in Paris, his works including many classical and allegorical subjects as well as exotic figures. He won the Prix de Rome in 1842, but was disqualified after it was found that he was not a Frenchman.
Several similarly sized and posed figures after Charles Cumberworth have appeared at Christie's.
Dimensions: Height 35 cm x Diameter (base) 10 cm
Weight 2.8 kg
Condition: This bronze is in superb condition with a wonderful patina. It is without losses. Additional photographs are available including a close-up of the base with sculptor's inscription.
