Burmese Silver Cigar / Cigarette Box

Asian silver (unmarked), high-relief hinge-lidded, cigar/cigarette box - wooden interior with removable partition - probably Burmese, probably 1920s/1930's - overall 14.5x10x5cm.
This well-crafted box is typical of Burmese work for the Anglo-colonial market in the pre-WWII period. The slightly-domed, hinged lid is decorated with a high-relief image depicting deities dancing with a mythical beast surrounded by scroll-work within an eye-shaped cartouche, itself within further scroll decoration.
In common with most of its type, the box is of unmarked silver. I am uncertain as to the standard. It looks to be higher than 800, but may not be of Sterling (925) standard - which would again be typical.
The wooden interior has a blue velvet covering to the outside of the bottom and a removable partition.
Internal length - 133mm - perfect for half corona cigars.
The condition is overall very good. The observations below are intended for completeness - there is nothing that detracts materially from its functionality or aesthetics. There are no material defects to the decoration. There is one noticeable mark to the bottom right of the lid and the sides have minor wear and scratching, consistent with age and use. The silver underside of the box is not well-finished (visible joins and file marks at the corners). The velvet covering to the underside is faded and marked. See photos.
I trade in small silver, jewellery and objets d'art. I sell primarily at antiques fairs and in cabinets in Christique Antique Centre in Dorking. I try to find unusual and interesting stock and like to keep turning it over, so I can buy more. Postage and packing are free within the UK - unless explicitly stated otherwise. All fine jewellery will be supplied with a box. If the box/case is described in the text, it will be the one photographed, but may not be if it is not mentioned explicitly. I keep hardly any stock at home, if you want to buy something and need it urgently, I will usually do it the next day, but it may take me some time to respond if you need extra photographs and/or details about the piece that I do not have to hand, as I typically visit the antiques centre just once a week. If you don't see what you're looking for - feel free to send an enquiry via the site. I have only been able to list a portion of my stock.
I will always mention anything that materially affects the aesthetic or function of a piece, but will not attempt to describe what I consider to be normal for age and use. Please use the photographs as well as you can and I’m always happy to answer specific questions.
