Edwardian Silver Photo Frame, Boots, B'ham, 1910

Here we have a handsome Edwardian Sterling Silver Easel Back Photo Frame with a visible picture size of 5ins x 3.5ins. The frame is basically oblong with indented sides and base and a scalloped top rim rising to a point. There is a harebell border all the way round the frame and it is decorated with extravagant floral garlands and swags. The cartouche at the top of the frame is blank.
The photo frame was made in Birmingham by the Boots Pure Drug Company and dates to 1910. Founded in Nottingham by John Boot in 1849, Boots The Chemist is now one of the UK's largest and most successful retailers. Between around 1900 and 1925, Boots produced and stocked a wide range of good quality household & personal silverware, primarily, though not exclusively, aimed at female customers. These attractive items have now become popular with collectors.
Overall condition of the silver is very good, with just a shallow crease in the cartouche at the top of the frame and the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 110 years on display. The green velvet on the back of the frame has become quite worn but the hinges on the opening and the strut are in good working order and the frame stands securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The frame is 22.4cm / 8.8ins high and 14.7cm / 5.8ins wide. It weighs in at 228.2g / 8oz.
The hallmarks, in the bottom left hand corner of the frame, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter l for 1910 and the B P D C makers' mark for the Boots Pure Drug Company.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the frame.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
