George III Silver Caddy Spoon, J. Lawrence, 1816

Here we have a George III Sterling Silver Scoop style Caddy Spoon with a Mother of Pearl handle. The underside of the scoop is elegantly engraved with the initials EW.
The caddy spoon is made in Birmingham by John Lawrence and dates to 1816. John Lawrence was definitely active in Birmingham between 1810 and 1820 and probably worked either side of these dates as well. He is best known for caddy spoons and vinaigrettes.
Condition is good with no dings or dents to the silver and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 200 years of good service. There is a tiny piece of wadding where the mother of pearl handle joins the silver scoop, which may be original or part of a later repair, it's very difficult to say which. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The caddy spoon is 10.8cm / 4.3ins long and weighs a respectable 8.9g / 0.3oz, although this does of course include the mother of pearl handle.
The hallmarks, on the inside rim of the scoop, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter s for 1816, the George III duty mark and the JL makers' mark for John Lawrence.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the caddy spoon.
