This is a good quality scoop style George III Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon. The spoon is made in Birmingham by John Hart & Co and dates to 1806. John Hart is a rare maker who is only known from a small number of pieces, either caddy spoons or vinaigrettes, all dated either 1805 or 1806, so this spoon is a great item for any caddy spoon collector.

The spoon is in the scoop style which was popular in the late 1700s / early 1800s but then went out of fashion. It has a curving handle with a letter "C" elegantly engraved on the finial. The hallmarks are on the inside back of the scoop, which does make them quite difficult to photograph!

The spoon is in very good condition with just one very small ding at the back of the scoop and the superficial surface wear that is inevitable after 214 years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The caddy spoon is 7.7cm long and weighs 10.0g.

The hallmarks are well struck and clear to read if a little awkward due to their location. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "i" for 1806, the George III duty mark and the H & Co makers' mark for John Hart & Co.
