George V Silver Cheroot Holder Case, London, 1918

This is an attractive George V Sterling Silver Cheroot Holder Case. Cheroots are small cigars and in the late 19th / early 20th century would commonly be inserted into a holder, often made out of amber, whilst being smoked. This silver case would have contained the amber holder. The case has scrolling engraved decoration around a blank cartouche and the interior is gilded. It would make a very attractive needle holder today.
The case was made in London by E.J. Pearson & Sons and dates to 1918. Pearson & Sons registered their first mark at Goldsmith's Hall in 1908. They primarily produced silver mounts for straps and belts alongside buckles and small smoking accessories. They remained in business up until the late 1920s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 105 years of use, much of it spent in a pocket or handbag. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The case is 6.2cm / 2.4ins long and weighs in at 7.3g / 0.26oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the side of the case are a little rubbed, particularly the makers' mark, but can still be made out. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter c for 1918 and the P & Ss makers' mark for E.J. Pearson & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st class Signed For.
