George V Silver Cream Jug, William Hutton, 1927


This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Cream Jug with a broad lip and a scroll handle. The upper part of the handle is enhanced with beaded decoration of descending size. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The cream jug is made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths William Hutton & Sons Ltd and dates to 1927. William Hutton established the firm in Birmingham in 1800 and the business transferred to Sheffield in the 1830s, later acquiring a further premises back in Birmingham around 1902. It remained a family business until it was bought out in 1930 by James Dixon & Sons.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 90 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The jug stands 7.3cm / 2.9ins high, is 10.4cm / 4.1ins from lip to handle and 6.3cm / 2.5ins in diameter across the top. It weighs a substantial 98.3g / 3.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks to the side of the handle are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter C for 1927 and the distinctive W H & Ss Ld makers' mark for William Hutton & Sons Ltd.
