George V Silver Honey Spoon, Roberts & Belk, 1918

This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Honey Spoon. These spoons are defined by the hook which comes out from the stem just above the bowl and allows the spoon to be hung from the rim of the honey jar or pot so that surplus honey drips back inside the jar.
The spoon was made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths Roberts & Belk and dates to 1918. Roberts & Belk traced its history back to the firm of Furniss, Poles & Turner founded in 1810. William Briggs joined the firm in 1822 and later took Samuel Roberts as a partner. After William Briggs retired in 1863, Charles Belk joined and the firm became Roberts & Belk, the name they retained until they were bought by C.J. Vander in 1961. They were a very successful company producing a wide range of domestic silverware, tableware and flatware.
Condition is good, with just one tiny ding in the bowl and the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 105 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 13.9cm / 5.5ins long and 3.4cm / 1.3ins across the bowl. It weighs in at a respectable 29.7g / 1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter a for 1918 and the R&B makers' mark and oil lamp trademark for Roberts & Belk.
