George V Silver Napkin Ring, Robert Pringle, 1913

This is a good quality Cased George V Sterling Silver Napkin Ring. The ring is cylindrical with flared rims at top and bottom. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. The box, from jeweller H. Samuel, has a thin burgundy leather outer cover with a silk lining in the lid and a velvet one holding the napkin ring.
The napkin ring was made by silversmiths Robert Pringle & Sons and assayed in Chester in 1913. Robert Pringle started his business in London's Clerkenwell Road around 1870, with his sons joining the business in the mid-1880s. The company manufactured in London, Sheffield and Birmingham. They remained a family run firm until finally closing in the late 1950s. They made a wide range of silverware for domestic and personal use but are best known for their consistently good quality tableware and flatware.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 110 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The napkin ring is 4.5cm / 1.8ins in diameter and 3.2cm / 1.25ins deep. It weighs in at 11.6g / 0.41oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the outside of the body, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter N for 1913 and the R.P makers' mark for Robert Pringle & Sons.
