George V Silver Topped Dressing Table Pot, 1919

This is a smart George V Cut Glass Dressing Table Pot with a Sterling Silver lid. The hand blown pot is cylindrical with slice cut sides and the screw top lid is decorated with engine turned stripes around a circular blank cartouche.
The pot was made in Birmingham for the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company and dates to 1919. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company occupied a famous showroom at 112 Regent Street where they served a high end clientele with goods of the very finest quality. They manufactured at Clerkenwell in London and the Regent Works in Sheffield. In 1952 they amalgamated with Garrard & Co.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass and no dings or dents in the silver lid. The cork inside the lid has worked loose over the course of time but is still in situ. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The pot stands 13.6cm / 5.3ins high and is 3.4cm / 1.3ins in diameter. It weighs in at 117.7g / 4.1oz.
The hallmarks are on the neck of the silver lid. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver and the Birmingham date letter u for 1919. The G & S Co sponsors' mark for The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company has been struck over the mark of the original manufacturer in Birmingham.
