Hester Bateman Silver Tablespoon Incuse Mark 1785

Here we have sale a historically important George III period bright cut decorated Old English pattern hallmarked silver tablespoon by the iconic and highly collectable female silversmith, Hester Bateman, who was one of the finest and most celebrated 18th Century silversmiths in the world. This spoon has special historical significance because it possesses the seldom seen Incuse duty mark which was used between December 1794 to May 1786 when it was replaced by the Cameo type duty mark, thus making the spoon more of a rarity.
