Hinged Silver Sovereign Case, W.H. Haseler, 1913

This is a good quality George V Sterling Silver Sovereign Case of an unusual hinged design. The coin case is made by silversmiths W.H. Haseler Ltd in Birmingham and dates to 1913. William Hair Haseler founded his antique jewellery and silversmiths company in Birmingham in the 1860s. They produced high quality personal items and remained in business until the early years of World War II.
Most sovereign cases use a spring mounted mechanism but this one is hinged and has a small spring strip inside to hold the coins tightly in place. It is marked PAT APPLIED FOR on the inside rim and has the initials "E.J.A." very elegantly engraved on the upper half. Sovereign cases are now very desirable collectors items and this would make a fine addition for any enthusiast.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and just a surface scuff mark on the underside that could be polished out if desired. The lock mechanism and hinge are in full working order and the spring strip holds any coins securely in place. It is hallmarked on all the various silver elements. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The case is 3cm / 1.1" in diameter and weighs a respectable 13.2g / 0.47oz.
There is a full set of hallmarks on the inside rim which are crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "o" for 1913 and the WHH makers' mark for William Hair Haseler Ltd. In addition the upper part of the case carries the lion passant for Sterling Silver and the date letter "o" for 1913 and the ring is stamped with the lion passant for Sterling Silver.
