Mid-Century Silver Teaspoon, Tho. Bradbury, 1952

This Mid-Century Sterling Silver Teaspoon is the epitome of the Modernist style of the 1950s and would have been on the cutting edge of design when it was made. The bowl is round and the stem tapers out to a squared off end. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The teaspoon is made in Sheffield by silversmiths Thomas Bradbury & Sons and dates to 1952. The firm traced its origin back to Fenton, Creswick & Co in 1773 with the first Thomas Bradbury joining as a partner in 1795. By 1831 the firm was run by Thomas Bradbury Snr & Jnr and remained in the control of the Bradbury family until the early years of the 20th century. The company was bought by Atkin Brothers in 1943 and they maintained the brand name into the early 1950s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 70 years of stirring cups of tea. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The teaspoon is 10.6cm / 4.2ins long and weighs in at 10.4g / 0.37oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter K for 1952, the Elizabeth II coronation mark and the T B & S makers' mark for Thomas Bradbury & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
