Pearce and Sons Arts and Crafts Silver Bowl c1912
We have for sale a lovely Arts and Crafts silver bowl by the excellent Lincolnshire silversmiths and jewellers Pearce and Sons.
This lovely heavy circular bowl is of a simple planished concave form and is supported on three solid silver cabriole legs. The bowl carries full English Hallmarks for London 1912 along with the makers marks for Pearce and Sons.
The bowl is 1.75 inches high, 5.75 inches in diameter and 128g. The bowl is in a very good to excellent condition with good clear hallmarks, although the interior of the bowl does exhibit some light scratching commensurate with over 100 years of careful use.
About Pearce and sons
Pearce and Sons was founded in Grantham, Lincolnshire in 1838 by Henry Pearce. He had four sons who helped him expand by opening further shops in Huddersfield, Leeds and Leicester. The Leicester business was opened in Gallowtree Gate by Henry’s son William Pearce. He and his assistant Charles Brook did a roaring trade and by 1911 had expanded again to open a shop in York. The business expanded once more taking over the Jewellers W. Mansell in Lincoln in 1947 and then a shop in Melton Mowbray in 1969. To this day, Pearce’s, the Jeweller of Melton Mowbray can trace their origins back as direct descendants of the Charles Brook who established the Leicester business with William Pearce.
