Silver Cream Jug & Sugar Bowl, Hukin & Heath 1888

Here we have a good quality late Victorian Sterling Silver Cream Jug and Sugar Bowl. Both pieces have fluted bodies, giving a scalloped oval outline to the top and bottom rims, with c-scroll handles and gilded interiors.
The cream jug and sugar bowl were made in London by the renowned silversmiths Hukin & Heath and date to 1888. Founded in Birmingham by Jonathan Hukin and John Heath in 1855, the firm is best known for its collaboration with Dr Christopher Dresser and their exhibitions of his groundbreaking designs for them at their London showroom. Hugely successful, the firm remained in business producing a broad range of consistently top quality silverware up until 1953.
Condition is very good, with just the overall superficial surface wear that has to be expected with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The cream jug is 10.4cm / 4.1ins from lip to handle, 5.5cm / 2.1ins across the base and stands 7.4cm / 2.9ins high. The sugar bowl is 15.1cm / 5.9ins from handle to handle, 7cm / 2.7ins across the base and also stands 7.4cm / 2.9ins high. The pair together weigh in at a very substantial 272.9g / 9.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the sides of the bodies, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter N for 1888, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the JTH over JHM makers' mark for John Thomas Heath and John Hartshorne Middleton of Hukin & Heath.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the set.
