Three Drawer Brass Telescope by J H Steward c.1880

A fabulous three drawer Victorian telescope made from polished solid English brass, which has just been professionally re-polished to gleam. Signed by J H Steward with the retail addresses " J H Steward, 406-66 Strand, 54 Cornhill, 63 St Paul's Church Yd, London"
It's unusual due to the covering of the barrel with a black woven fibre and a string natural woven cord top and bottom with a tab integrated into each.
The lens has a brass cover and the eye piece has a little integrated shutter to protect the eye hole.
Excellent condition, measuring 6 1/8" in length extending to 16 1/2" in length.

James Henry Steward (1817–1896) established J.H. Steward in London in 1852. As “Head Optician”. J.H Steward became incorporated as J.H. Steward Limited on 1st February, 1913.
