Victorian Silver Egg Spoon George Adams / Chawner


Arthur Vandyk Antiques are delighted to offer for sale this fine quality Victorian hallmarked silver fiddle egg spoon by the prolific and renowned Victorian spoon maker George Adams of Chawner & Co. The spoon is of good gauge silver and has a period monogram to the terminus of the handle.

Condition Report:
In very good condition for age of 154 year age, with age related marks and scratches . Otherwise, a good clean example of a Victorian George Adams Fiddle Pattern Spoon.
History of George Adams/Chawner Family
George William Adams married Mary Anne Chawner in 1838, the daughter of William Chawner II and Mary Chawner. Adams worked initially with his mother in law creating flatware with her between 1834-40 a joint makers mark was created. From 1840 -1883, Adams worked under his own name and thus registered his own 'GA' mark that you see on this spoon. Adams was very successful and even exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition in London. George Adams sold the business to Adwinkle and Slater in the 1883.
