Victorian Silver Heart Vesta Case, Birmingham 1900

This is a charming late Victorian Sterling Silver Vesta Case. The heart shaped case is engraved all over the body with scrolling foliate decoration surrounding a circular blank cartouche. The inside of the lid is gilded.
The vesta case was made in Birmingham by noted silversmiths Deakin & Francis and dates to 1900, the last full year of Queen Victoria's long reign. Deakin & Francis have a proud history as silversmiths and jewellers dating back to 1786. The firm is still run by members of the Deakin family today. They are England's oldest manufacturing jewellers and still working from the same building that they started in back in the 18th century.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after 125 years of good service. The hinge is in full working order and the lid snaps shut securely. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The vesta case is 4.5cm / 1.8ins by 4.2cm / 1.6ins and 0.9cm / 0.35ins deep. It weighs in at 22.3g / 0.78oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the inside rim of the body, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter a for 1900 and the D & F makers' mark for Deakin & Francis.
Shipping in the UK is £12.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the vesta case.
