Victorian Silver Spoon & Fork Set, G. Unite, 1866

Here we have a fine quality Victorian Sterling Silver Dessert Spoon and Fork set. These would almost certainly have originally been a Christening gift, however they have no initials or inscription and would be suitable to be regifted today. The handles, which have beaded decoration on both sides, are attached to Fiddle style bowl and tines.
The spoon and fork are made by celebrated silversmiths George Unite & Sons in Birmingham and date to 1866. George Unite founded the business in 1825 in partnership with James Hilliard and took sole control around 1845. George's sons joined the business and the name changed to George Unite & Sons in the 1860s. The firm was renowned for its high quality silverware and remained in business up until around 1930.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 150 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 18.4cm / 7.2ins long, the fork is 16cm / 6.3ins long and the pair together weigh in at a very respectable 64.8g / 2.3oz.
The hallmarks on both pieces are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter R for 1866, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the G.U makers' mark for George Unite & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £4.00 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
