2 x Art Deco Silver Toast Racks, Viner's, 1936

Here we have an elegant pair of Art Deco Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Racks. The toast racks have rectangular bases on bracket feet and the dividers are squared off arches. The handles are squared off diamond shapes. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. These would be perfect for a romantic couple's breakfast!
The toast racks are made in Sheffield by well known silversmiths Viner's Ltd and date to 1936, the year of the short reign of Edward VIII. Viner's was founded around 1900 by Adolphe Viener, who later Anglicized his family surname to Viner. Starting out as electroplaters, the firm moved into silverware in the early 1920s. They remained extremely successful up until the 1970s but later had difficulties and ceased trading in the 1980s. The Viner's brand name is now owned by Oneida.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 85 years of service on the breakfast table. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each toast rack measures 7.5cm / 2.9ins by 4.5cm / 1.7ins and stands 7.2cm / 2.8ins high. The pair together weigh in at a substantial 103.2g / 3.6oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the side of each base are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter t for 1936 and the E V makers' mark for Emile Viner of Viner's Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast racks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
