3 x George IV Silver Shell Teaspoons, London, 1827

This is a good quality set of three George IV Sterling Silver Shell Teaspoons. The teaspoons are basically in the Old English pattern but in place of the plain bowl, there is a bowl shaped as a shell. There are no initials or other personalisation on the spoons, which makes them ideal to move onto a new owner.
The set of teaspoons are made in London by brothers John, Henry & Charles Lias and date to 1827. Founded by John Lias in 1791, the Lias family firm were prominent London spoon makers throughout the 19th century and John\'s son Henry was Prime Warden, the highest office, of the Goldsmiths Livery Company who run the London Assay Office. At the end of the 19th century the Lias family were no longer involved and the firm changed its name to Wakely & Wheeler.
Condition of the spoons is good with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the shell bowls, something these shell bowls are a little prone to. Other than that there is just the superficial surface wear you would expect after over 190 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoons are each 12.8cm / 5.1ins long and the set of three weighs in at a respectable 34.5g / 1.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are well struck and really clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard\'s head assay mark for London, the date letter m for 1827, the George IV duty mark and the IL over HL over CL makers\' mark for John, Henry & Charles Lias.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
