6 x Art Deco Silver Coffee Spoons, Cooper Bros, 1952
This is a stylish cased set of 6 Vintage Sterling Silver Coffee Spoons in a distinctive Art Deco "Odeon" design. The registered design number on the spoons shows that this pattern was registered in 1937/38 and obviously proved popular as it was still in production nearly 20 years later.
The spoons are made by renowned Sheffield silversmiths Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd and date to 1952. The box shows that they were retailed by James Ramsay of Dundee in Scotland, a long established firm of jewellers, silversmiths and watchmakers that dated back to at least the 1870s.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents to the spoons and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 70 years of service. The box is also in good condition with just some very minor scuff marks and a fully functional clasp and hinges. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The coffee spoons are each 9.4cm / 3.75ins long and the set of 6 unboxed weighs in at 57g / 2oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are wel struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter K for 1952 and the CB & S in a shield makers' mark for Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd. They also have the registered design number of 820564 on each stem, showing that the design was originally registered in 1937/38.
