6 x Victorian Silver Teaspoons, Jersey, 1873

This is a beautiful Set of Six Victorian Sterling Silver Teaspoons. The spoons are in the traditional Fiddle pattern but raised to a different level by the bright cut feathered decoration down the fronts of the stems. Each spoon has the initials E E G elegantly engraved at the tops of the stems.
The teaspoons were made in St Helier, Jersey by John Pope Genge and assayed in Exeter in 1873. John Pope Genge was a silversmith based in St Helier, the capital of the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands. He was a specialist spoon and flatware maker active between around 1870 and the late 1890s. His early pieces were assayed in Exeter and, after that office closed in 1882, his later work was assayed in London.
Condition is good, with just a couple of truly tiny dings in the bowls on three of the spoons plus the overall superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 150 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each spoon is 13.5cm / 5.3ins long and the set of six together weighs in at a very respectable 77.6g / 2.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the date letter R for 1873, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the J.P.G makers' mark for John Pope Genge.
