Art Deco Silver Bonbon Dish, Birmingham, 1937
It would be hard to find a more typically Art Deco piece than this elegant Bonbon Dish. With its stepped pedestal base and bowl and six "odeon style" decorations around the top of the rim it just cries out 1930s Art Deco. The dish was made in 1937 by Duncan & Scobbie and assayed in Birmingham. Although Duncan & Scobbie were based at Vincent Street in Glasgow nearly all their work was assayed in Birmingham, with pieces also marked in Sheffield, Chester and London. They were in business from around 1910 up until the late 1950s and produced many high quality pieces of tableware and personal items.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only superficial wear from over 80 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
This is a very well made piece in a decent gauge of silver and would grace any occasion where a small dish is required for nuts, nibbles or sweets. It would be perfect filled with strawberries! If you want a little Art Deco style for your table then this is the dish for you.
The bonbon dish is 10.5cm in diameter and stands 4.8cm high. It weighs a respectable 71.8g of solid sterling silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are well struck and clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "N" for 1937 and the D&S makers' mark for Duncan & Scobbie.
Shipping in the UK is £8 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post which includes insurance for the value of the bowl.
Overseas customers please ask us about shipping costs before making your purchase.
