George III Silver Salt Spoon, Richd Crossley 1783
Here we have a good quality George III Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the traditional Old English pattern. The spoon is made in London by highly regarded silversmith Richard Crossley and dates to 1783, making it an early piece by him. Crossley, a specialist spoon maker, registered his first makers' mark in London in April 1782 and remained in business until his death in 1815

This spoon is in the classic Old English pattern, probably the most successful flatware design of all time. It is a well made item in a good gauge of silver and perfectly practical for modern use with a range of condiments or sauces.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear you would expect after over 230 years of use! Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The salt spoon is 10cm / 3.9" long and weighs in at 6.6g / 0.23oz.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are a little distorted, as they often are on Georgian silver but can be deciphered. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London pre-1821, the date letter "h" for 1783 and the RC makers' mark for Richard Crossley.
