George V Silver Bowl, Mappin & Webb, 1933

Here we have a top quality George V Sterling Silver Two Handled Bowl on a pedestal base. The main part of the bowl is plain with acanthus leaf decoration on the handles and stepped decoration on the pedestal base.
The bowl could be used as a bonbon dish, for holding nuts or snacks or as a small trophy. It has no engraving on it and could therefore have whatever text was required added without a problem.
The bowl is made in Sheffield by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb and dates to 1933. Founded in 1863 by John Newton Mappin when he left Mappin Brothers to go into partnership with his brother in law George Webb, Mappin & Webb are probably the best known name in English silverware and always a guarantee of good quality.
Condition is very good with just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 90 years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bowl is 8.2cm / 3.25ins in diameter, 12.8cm / 5ins from handle to handle and stands 6.5cm / 2.5ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 113.8g / 4oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the side of the bowl are well struck and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter q for 1933 and the M & W makers\' mark for Mappin & Webb.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery Parcel Post, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
Overseas customers please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
