Silver Pepper Shaker, Walker & Hall, 1908
An elegant part reeded Edwardian Sterling Silver Pepper Shaker in the Georgian revival style. The Pepper Shaker was made by famous silversmiths Walker & Hall, one of the great names of English silver. Founded in Sheffield in 1845 as Walker & Co, they became Walker & Hall in 1853 and continued in business up until the early 1970s when they were merged into Mappin & Webb. This is a high quality pepper shaker in a good gauge of silver. It was assayed in Sheffield and dates to 1908.
The Pepper Shaker is in generally good condition with only the minimal amount of wear & tear you would expect from over 110 years of use. The lid fits securely onto the body making it safe for shaking onto food but is easy to remove for refilling. It is entirely suitable for use on a dining table today or would make a good addition to any collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The Pepper Shaker is 9.1cm high and 3.7cm across. It weighs a respectable 33.3g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the neck of the shaker are a little rubbed but still clear to read. The hallmarks are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the gothic date letter "q" for 1908 and the W&H in a flag makers' mark for Walker & Hall Ltd. In addition the inside rim of the lid also has the lion passant, date letter "q" and W&H in a flag makers' mark.
