Victorian Silver Caddy Spoon, Jos. Williams, 1898

This is a good quality late Victorian Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon. The spoon has a shell bowl with a short twist stem and a pierced Gothic upper section. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The caddy spoon is made by Josiah Williams & Co of Bristol and assayed in London in 1898. With a history dating back to around 1818, Josiah Williams & Co were the largest firm of British silversmiths outside of London, Birmingham & Sheffield. As Bristol didn't have an assay office their items were sent first to Exeter and, after that office closed, to London for hallmarking. They ceased trading at the start of the Second World War.
Condition is very good with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The caddy spoon is 9.6cm / 3.8ins long and 3.5cm / 1.4ins across the bowl. It weighs a very respectable 14.6g / 0.51oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter c for 1898 and the GJ over DF makers' mark for George Jackson and David Fullerton of Josiah Williams & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
