Victorian Silver Mustard Pot, Sheffield, 1895

This is an elegant Victorian Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original Clear Glass Liner. The mustard pot is in the Georgian Revival style with a part reeded body, a reeded dome lid and a wrythen flame finial. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The mustard pot was made in Sheffield by well known firm Harrison Brothers & Howson and dates to 1895. The firm was founded in 1847 when James & Henry Harrison and James Howson acquired the silversmith business of Thomas Sansom & Sons. They quickly established themselves as high class cutlers, silversmiths and electroplaters and remained in the Harrison and Howson families until the business was bought out by Viner's Ltd in 1923, although the brand name was continued by Viner's for some years after that date.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents in the silver and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 125 years of good service. There is a small chip in the top rim of the glass liner but it remains perfectly usable. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard pot is 7.7cm / 3ins from rim to handle, 5cm / 1.9ins across and stands 6cm / 2.4ins high. Without the glass liner it weighs in at a very respectable 67.7g / 2.4oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 129.0g / 4.5oz.
The hallmarks, on the top of the body near the handle, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter c for 1895 and the G H makers' mark for George Howson of Harrison Brothers & Howson.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the mustard pot.
