Victorian Silver Photo Frame, M.J. Jessop, 1900

Here we have an ornate late Victorian Sterling Silver Photo Frame with a visible picture size of 5.25ins by 3.75ins. The easel backed upright frame is extensively decorated with embossed scrolls and flowers and has a blank oval cartouche in the centre at the top. The back and strut are covered in purple velvet.
The photo frame was made in Birmingham by Matthew John Jessop and dates to 1900, the last full year of Queen Victoria's long reign. Matthew John Jessop was a high end manufacturer and retailer in London's famous Hatton Garden district from the mid-1880s up until the start of World War One. His work is found with both Birmingham & London hallmarks.
Condition is good, with no dings or dents, just a couple of pinholes on the high points where the silver has been polished through and the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 125 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The frame is 16.1cm / 6.3ins high by 12.3cm / 4.8ins wide and is 10.5cm / 4.1ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs 182g / 6.4oz.
The hallmarks, in the bottom left of the frame, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter a for 1900 and the M J J makers' mark for Matthew John Jessop.
Shipping in the UK is £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the frame.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
