Edwardian Hanoverian Rat Tail Silver Coffee Spoons


Arthur Vandyk Antiques are proud to present for sale this fine quality set of six solid silver Edwardian period Hanoverian pattern with rat tail demitasse coffee spoons. The spoons come with a period fitted box.
History of the Hanoverian pattern
This eighteenth century pattern first appeared during the reign of Queen Anne in around 1710 & is named after the House of Hanover, who reigned in Britain from 1714 (George I) until 1901 (Queen Victoria) before being succeeded by the house of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha.
The Hanoverian pattern was an evolution of the late 17th century dog nose pattern and originally had a rat tail, this disappeared around 1720, the pattern fell out of fashion during the 1760s when it was superseded by the Old English pattern but reappeared during the late 19th Century.

Condition report:
The Spoons:
In overall good condition with some age related wear, some minor surface scratches, tarnish marks plus minor knocks/ scratches to the edges of the spoon bowls .
The Box:
The box is in overall good condition with wear to the edges and the exterior base and the top. The velvet & satin interior is in very good order and the clasp closes firmly.
