Edwardian Silver Seal Top Spoon, T. Bradbury, 1907

This is an attractive Edwardian Sterling Silver Seal Top Spoon. This design was originally produced in the late Tudor period and remained popular until the Commonwealth period when undecorated puritan spoons became the standard pieces. The pattern was revived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The spoon was made in Sheffield by Thomas Bradbury & Sons and dates to 1907. The firm traced its origin back to Fenton, Creswick & Co in 1773 with the first Thomas Bradbury joining as a partner in 1795. By 1831 the firm was run by Thomas Bradbury Snr & Jnr and remained in the control of the Bradbury family until the early years of the 20th century. The company was bought by Atkin Brothers in 1943 and they maintained the brand name into the early 1950s.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 115 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 12.2cm / 4.8ins in length and weighs in at a respectable 29.1g / 1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passdant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter p for 1907 and the T B & S in a shield makers' mark for Thomas Bradbury & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £4.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
