Attractive and unusual fully working Victorian silver counter bell from either a hotel reception or a shop. Pierced and embossed silver shell with 2 grotesque masks amongst flowers and foliage and a heart shaped vacant cartouche. Fluted done to the top and matching finial and the bottom with an ornate pierced frieze. Set on a wooden base. The bells rings by twiting the knob on the top. Hallmarked for London 1897, makers William Comyns & Sons.

It measures 2 1/4" (6cm) high and 10 1/2" (4 1/8") wide. Condition is very good with no splits or repairs and it rings beautifully when the knob is twisted. It has been dropped at some point so the silver is very slightly compressed in at one place below the fluted section. The ringing column is also slightly off plumb and with a small dent to the top of the knob. But these are minimal distractions and most of these bells are found in similar condition due to their commercial lives. The problems could also be sorted by a silversmith if required.
