Edwardian Silver Mustard Spoon, Ch. Boyton, 1907
This is a fine quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the classic Fiddle pattern. The spoon has the initials C D elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.
The mustard spoon is made in London by Charles Boyton & Son and dates to 1907. Highly respected silversmiths Charles Boyton & Son were founded by the first Charles Boyton in 1827. Three further generations of Charles Boytons ran the firm until they got into financial difficulties in 1933. A new company was then founded using the name but had no involvement from the Boyton family.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 10.7cm / 4.2ins long and weighs a respectable 11.0g / 0.39oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are clear to read with just the makers' mark being partly rubbed away but still easy to decipher. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter m for 1907 and the distinctive C B & S in a trefoil makers' mark for Charles Boyton & Son.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
