Large Edwardian Silver Double Photo Frame, 1902

Here we have a stunning Large Edwardian Sterling Silver Double Photo Frame. The scalloped oval windows have a visible picture size of 5.5ins by 3.75ins. The surround is extensively decorated with scrolls, flowers and foliage. There are two cartouches below each window and one heart shaped cartouche above each window, all of which are blank. The easel back is covered in purple velvet.
This frame would be fabulous as a wedding gift or for a special anniversary.
The photo frame was made in Birmingham by William Devenport and dates to 1902. William Devenport founded his firm in the 1890s in the heart of Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter. Quickly successful, the company produced a huge range of silverware. After William's death in the early 1930s, the company became William Devenport & Co and remained in business into the early 1950s.
Condition is very good with just the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 120 years of good service. The strut is secure and operates smoothly as does the hinged back of the frame. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The photo frame is of a substantial size measuring 29.5cm / 11.6ins across, 20.3cm / 8ins high and 12.5cm / 4.9ins deep with the strut fully extended. It weighs in at 716g / 25.26oz.
The hallmarks, on the bottom rim of the frame, are nice and clear to read. On one side they show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham and the date letter c for 1902. On the other side is the W.D makers' mark for William Devenport.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the photo frame.
