Scottish Silver Gravy Spoon, Clan Macdonald
A superb Antique, George III, Scottish Sterling Silver Gravy (Basting or Stuffing) Spoon made in Edinburgh and dating from c1811.
It is hallmarked with the maker's mark "AH" for Alexander Henderson, the Scottish thistle sterling silver mark, the Monarch's Head duty mark, the "castle" town mark for Edinburgh and date letter "f" for 1811/12.
The terminal engraved with the clan crest and motto of Clan Macdonald of Clanranald. The crest is a castle with three towers, and an armoured hand with sword issuing from the centre. The motto, "My hope is constant in thee", the words spoken by Robert the Bruce to Angus Og prior to the Battle of Bannockburn, that became the motto of Clanranald.
The spoon measures over 12" inches (310mm) in length.
The weight is 104.6g.
It is in excellent condition.
